Making Learning Visible in ELC

A great big thanks to all who attended the 2017-18 Making Learning Visible Exhibit in the ELC, ‘between symbolic languages and writing’. What an incredible night in celebration of childhood. In the words of an attendee, “It was beautiful. The lighting, ambience, artefacts, documentation, and the stories put together. It’s worth celebrating”!

Transition Coffee Morning

Dear Families,

“Your life is a story of Transition. You are always leaving one chapter behind while moving on to the next.”

When families are in transition, each member responds to the changes in different ways. In this coffee morning, we will engage in a creative hands-on activity that provides an opportunity to explore the process of transition.

This workshop is for parents of all students leaving LIS at the end of this academic year. Please RSVP here, as spaces will be limited. We will open up a second session if necessary but we do need to have accurate numbers to support all of our families.

It will be held on Friday 18th May from 8:15am to 9:30am in the Secondary Library (upstairs). We will have a Portuguese translator.

See you there,
LIS Counselling Team

Silent Art Auction

Dear families,

You are invited to the opening evening event of the Silent Art Auction on Monday, May 7 from 6:00-7:30pm on the upper floor of building 7 (see poster attached). Students from years 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10 are excited to show off the collaborative artwork they have created for the auction as well as the artwork they have completed this year in visual arts class.

After researching and discussing, students have decided to donate the proceeds of the auction to the Kambamba School Fundraiser and the Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Project:

  • Kambamba School Fundraiser: Two secondary students, Anna Lynn Thornsberry and Yasmin Andrade, are raising money to help build a new school for children in need.
  • Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Project: This project aims to rescue chimpanzees being held in captivity. The project provides immediate care for the chimpanzees as w organizes and funds the transportation and integration of the chimpanzees into rehabilitation sanctuaries in neighbouring countries.

Bidding instructions: Beginning on the opening evening of the auction, you will be able to bid on the artwork of your choice by filling out a piece of paper indicating your bid amount. You will place the paper into a box with the corresponding artwork’s picture on it. The winner of each artwork is the person who bids the highest. Only the winner will pay.

The artwork will continue to be on display from May 7-11 in B7, where you will be able to place your bids until Thursday, May 11 at 3pm. The winner of each canvas will be contacted on Monday, May 14 via email with instructions on how to pay and how to collect the artwork.

Earth Day

Earth Day was an amazing whole school event celebrated on Friday 20 April. The awareness and understanding of how we are all part of the harmony of nature and how we can make a difference in protecting our earth was clearly evident from our Prep students to our secondary high school students. The awesome video below was created by Grace a Year 11 student and shows some of the learning engagements that took place during the day. As a result of this day our school took action.

Family Reading Night – April 18, 2018: Family Reading Night, Wednesday, April 18

A celebration of super readers – Family Reading Night, Wednesday 18 April

The Library was filled with super readers enjoying fantastic stories read to them by our super teachers. After listening to the different stories, the super children then borrowed books from the Primary Library.

Not only did we have a great time during Family Reading Night, but thanks to our generous super families, we collected quite a few donations for the children from Casa das Criancas.
