A celebration of reading : Celebrar a leitura

A celebration of reading

Family Reading Night was held on Wednesday 4 October. Parents and children listened to a range of stories read to them by our wonderful teachers. It was lovely to see the children’s reactions to the stories. The children then had an opportunity to borrow books from the Primary Library.

Not only did we have a great time during Family Reading Night, but thanks to our generous families, we collected quite a few donations of color pencils / markers and writing paper for the children from House of the Children.

Please save the date for our next Family Reading Night. It will be held on Wednesday, 18 April 2018. More information and a sign up for this event will be shared in March 2018.

Celebrate reading

On Wednesday, October 4, the LIS library hosted a Family Readings Session. Parents and children together heard a series of stories told by our excellent teachers. It was wonderful to see the children’s reactions to the stories. In the end, everyone had the opportunity to choose books from the Primary library to take home.

Not only did we have a lot of fun in this Session, but also thanks to the generosity of the participating families, we were able to collect a lot of school material – crayons and markers, as well as drawing and writing paper for the boys and girls living in the Children’s House.

Please mark the date of our next Family Readings Session on the agenda; will be on Wednesday, April 18, 2018. More information about this event and its registration will be announced in March 2018.

Earth Day

Earth Day is celebrated so that we reflect on how we can change our behaviour so that we take care of our planet. Some of our actions will make a difference immediately. Other changes take longer to see any improvement.

LIS will be celebrating Earth Day on Friday, the 21st of April, 2017. Everyone will have an opportunity to learn and share ideas about how they make a difference. The day will end with an Earth Day Assembly at 2:15pm in the big gymnasium.

We have different Earth Day displays in the Library and encourage you to visit us so you can tell us all about the action you take.

It’s a brand new school year!

It’s been lovely to see students (of all ages) visiting the LIS Library. I’m new this year but I already feel welcome. I’ve been greeted with lots of friendly smiles and some interesting conversations. It’s wonderful to to see so many students excited to talk about books they have read.

We want everyone to visit the library regularly. Students are encouraged to change their books as soon as they have finished reading them. They don’t have to wait until their allotted library time. Parents are encouraged to come in too! If you want your child to be a good reader, then you should show them you read. Have conversations about what you are all reading. Read a book together. Read for leisure.

Please take good care of the library books. Keep them in a safe, dry place. When transporting library books to and from school, make sure that they are kept well away from water bottles, wet swimwear and lunch boxes.

Please note that overdue notices will be sent home soon so we would appreciate the prompt return of any library books that didn’t make their way back to the library before the summer.

We’re looking forward to seeing you at the Library. Stop in and say hello!
