Dear Parents

School holidays are just around the corner so that means we’ll need all library materials to be returned and library accounts cleared. Please check your email for regular updates listing items that are checked out to your son/daughter.

Please take note of the following dates:

  • 19 May – Last day for borrowing
  • 29 May – Last day the library is open. After this date, the library is closed for the rest of the school year.*
  • 31 May – All items need to be returned & library accounts cleared
  • 5 June – Families will be invoiced for lost/damaged library materials
  • 8 June – Last day of school –  reports released to those who have cleared accounts

*Year 12 Diploma students should see me if they need to borrow books for their studies over the holidays.

Earth Day

Earth Day is celebrated so that we reflect on how we can change our behaviour so that we take care of our planet. Some of our actions will make a difference immediately. Other changes take longer to see any improvement.

LIS will be celebrating Earth Day on Friday, the 21st of April, 2017. Everyone will have an opportunity to learn and share ideas about how they make a difference. The day will end with an Earth Day Assembly at 2:15pm in the big gymnasium.

We have different Earth Day displays in the Library and encourage you to visit us so you can tell us all about the action you take.

It’s a brand new school year!

It’s been lovely to see students (of all ages) visiting the LIS Library. I’m new this year but I already feel welcome. I’ve been greeted with lots of friendly smiles and some interesting conversations. It’s wonderful to to see so many students excited to talk about books they have read.

We want everyone to visit the library regularly. Students are encouraged to change their books as soon as they have finished reading them. They don’t have to wait until their allotted library time. Parents are encouraged to come in too! If you want your child to be a good reader, then you should show them you read. Have conversations about what you are all reading. Read a book together. Read for leisure.

Please take good care of the library books. Keep them in a safe, dry place. When transporting library books to and from school, make sure that they are kept well away from water bottles, wet swimwear and lunch boxes.

Please note that overdue notices will be sent home soon so we would appreciate the prompt return of any library books that didn’t make their way back to the library before the summer.

We’re looking forward to seeing you at the Library. Stop in and say hello!
