The Year 3 Team

Maths- Thinker Learner Profile- Summer Holiday

Dear Parents,

This week the children were going on a summer holiday. They were asked to pack their bag which contained 3 different colored shirts and 4 different colored shorts. Linking to our learner profile attribute of thinker they then had to find all the different combinations of dress.

After exploring for a while students came to an agreement that the best way to find all the combinations was to keep one thing the same (for example keep the same color shorts) until all the combinations could be found.

As an extension students were asked to make math equations to explain their findings.

Olympics Day!

Dear Parents,

This week the children had the opportunity to spend time with their friends and colleagues across the entire school during our Olympics! Splitting into small groups everyone had the chance to meet old and make new friends while playing many team building games and activities.

Celebration of Writing!

What a great turn out we had to our writing celebration today! The students were so excited to have you parents join us so we could show off the expert books we have been working so hard on. Hope you enjoyed them!

There will be more opportunities for you parents to come visit us later this term so we can share more learning. We will be sure to keep you posted!

Review Writing

REVIEW WRITING

In our latest inquiry into writing, writers will write about something they have experiences in and are passionate about (or are not passionate about). They will share their opinion- whether it is positive or negative and will use evidence (their own experience and the opinions of others) to support their opinion.

This unit allows writers to feel that their opinions are valued and have an audience. We will be looking at a variety of ways we can publish our reviews for a wider audience – more information to come soon! – we are very excited about finding  authentic audiences!

We have been immersing ourselves as writers in reviews – of toys, of games, of books, of hotels. And we have been exploring the purpose of those reviews – how do they work? We have been able to make connections to our own experiences – how is it connected to other things? And we have noticed that sometimes our perspective can be different from others – what are the points of view?

Our eagle-eyed critics are sharpening their pencils ready to make their opinions heard!
