Week 4 of Term 2

Seesaw

It is great to see so many visitors to our new class Seesaw portfolio.  The children have learnt how to upload their own work each week.  We hope you will take the time to make comments about your child’s work when you can.

Angolan Independence Day – A celebration…

Last Friday we enjoyed the performances from different Angolan groups – dancers, singers and musicians.

We were able to meet an Angolan author, Kizola Nzambi who came to talk to us about her book.  Ms. Josefina read us the book before she came.  She read it in ‘umbundo’ language first and many students found this challenging to understand – we learnt to read Ms Josefina’s non-verbal communication as she read the story.  Ms. Josefina then read the book in Portugese and a lot of children were able to understand the content of the book even more.  She finished rereading the story in English, so that all children and their teacher could understand the story.

We prepared questions to ask Kizola when she visited the classroom.

We were also lucky enough to have Toty Sa’med, an Angolan singer, sing to us and we were able to sing to him too.

Challenging ourselves with new Literacy Games

We learnt to create a ‘tic-tac toe’ board and choose 9 sight words.  The caller will say a sight word and if we have it on our board we cover it with a counter.  When you get 3 in a row you are the winner.

Making connections with shapes…

We are exploring 2-D and 3-D shapes and looking at the different forms and making connections between them.

Using Book Creator app to communicate…

Lueji and Alicia shared their book they have made using this app on the iPad.  They chose to express the way they were feeling in their story.
